There’s an old joke: uh, two elderly women are at a Catskills mountain resort, and one of ‘em says, “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.” The other one says, “Yeah, I know, and such small portions.”

Recently at work, a friend got all philosophical on me and asked, “What is the meaning of true freedom?” I thought about it for a while then simply told her, in true cynic fashion, that I don’t think true freedom exists. She told me I was wrong and that true freedom is “having the ability to do what you ought to do.” In that case, I still think I’m right.
